Thanks to the great response from the Chess Community, we are extending the early registration deadline to 9/15/17!


The Chess Club at the University of Minnesota invites you to play in the 3rd Golden Gopher Open, on campus for the first time ever! Make sure to explore the beautiful St. Paul Campus, visit the UMN Raptor Center, and relax in the Game Room and Bowling Alley, open in the same building as the playing hall.

Format for Unrated (1-day section)

  • G/30, 5-second delay

  • Saturday: 11:30am, 12:45pm, 2:00pm, 3:15pm, 4:30pm


Hotels

A list of hotels near the St. Paul campus can be found at https://admissions.tc.umn.edu/visit/hotel.html. Many of these hotels offer free parking and a shuttle from the hotel to and from campus.


Parking

 Free street parking is available around the St. Paul Student Center. Parking is also available in the Gortner Avenue Ramp, with a daily rate of $6.

 


IM Andrew Tang will be giving a simul, free to all players, on Saturday at 10:15am. Note that the building is unlocked for us at 10:00am.


IM John Bartholomew will be giving a lecture, free to both players and spectators, on Sunday at 10:15am. Note that the building is unlocked for us at 10:00am.


Important Information

  • Limit two half-point byes. No half-point byes given in last round.

  • Bring your own sets and clocks, if possible.

  • If elligible for a free entry (GMs, IMs, FMs, UMN Students and Staff), contact us directly to register.

  • If elligible for free entry, entry fee will be deducted from prize.
